There is no fixed list price for an automated fare collection (AFC) system. Cost comes from one validator per vehicle, central cloud panel usage and consumables such as cards and QR tickets. Fleet size, the access methods you need (card, NFC, QR, credit card), the number of card top-up points and integration scope determine the total budget.
The Items That Determine Price
An AFC proposal should include all of the items below; comparing on validator price alone is misleading.
Example Scopes by Fleet Size
These scenarios show which items a quote includes; figures are calculated for your fleet, route structure and required access methods.
10-vehicle minibus cooperative
- 10 validators and a small number of card top-up points
- Full-fare and student card types
- Per-plate revenue and Top-up Z Report
- Offline operation: collection continues on village and tunnel routes
More: minibus card system
30-vehicle district municipality
- 30 validators and municipal card top-up points
- Student, retiree, teacher, free and discounted social cards
- Birthday and public holiday discounts
- Multi-branch management and bank reconciliation
More: public transport system for municipalities
100+ vehicle fleet
- One validator per vehicle, card top-up through a dealer network
- Menu-based permissions, working-hours and PC restrictions
- 22 ready-made reports and automatic report emails
- Optional EMV credit card integration
More: Sole Akbil management panel
Price: for each scenario, the quote is prepared item by item from your fleet details.
Calculate the Total Cost of Ownership
Comparing proposals on hardware price alone is misleading. Compare the 3-5 year total cost, including whether the central software is a one-off licence or a subscription, SIM costs, and maintenance and support. See our AFC buyer's guide for the 10 questions to ask when requesting quotes.
What Information Do We Need for a Quote?
- Number of vehicles and route structure
- Card types to be used and estimated card quantity
- Number of card top-up / sales points
- Required access methods (card, NFC, QR, credit card)
- Existing validator hardware, if any
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there no fixed price for an AFC system?
Cost is made up of one validator per vehicle, the central cloud panel, cards/QR tickets, SIM lines, card top-up points and setup and support. Because these items differ for every fleet, we prepare an itemised quote based on your fleet instead of a fixed list price.
Can we reuse our existing validators?
Existing Sole Akbil T10 fleets can be migrated to the SoleAkbil software. Whether other hardware can be reused is assessed during the technical survey.
Does credit card payment affect the cost?
Yes. The terminals are hardware-ready for contactless bank card acceptance; going live requires a separate payment acquirer integration, which is priced per project.
Do we need to buy a local server?
No. The system is cloud-based; devices sync over SIM internet and a local server is not required for setup.
How long does setup take?
It depends on the number of vehicles, card top-up points and infrastructure readiness; the exact timeline is set after a technical survey. On small fleets, setup can be completed within days.
